FAQ – Wedding Videography with Daniel Florez
Loading Kodak film into a 1960’s Super 8 camera. 16mm is quite a bit more involved.
We already have a photographer, why do we need to invest in a videographer as well?
Most couples book a photographer first, and then see if there’s room in the budget for video. After over a decade of photographing weddings, I believe photos capture how things looked, while video captures how it felt.
As a former wedding photographer for over 15 years, I believed stills were enough — until I started filming. A photo can freeze a smile, but it can’t show you how someone laughed, or how they danced, or what their voice sounded like when they said “I love you.”
Video brings back the people you love in a way nothing else can. As I’ve gotten older (I'm 41 now), that’s only become more meaningful. The faces change, the voices fade, and suddenly that flickering Super 8 moment or whispered toast feels like gold. I also believe story and context is invaluable, and is best told through movement and sound.
It’s not about documenting everything — it’s about preserving something real. Something you’ll want to come back to, especially years down the line.
🎥 Why should we go with you vs a traditional videographer?
I hear this a lot. My films aren’t long or slow—they’re emotional, fun, and made with intention. Minimal awkward posing, no weird transitions—just real moments, captured with care and edited to feel like you.
📸 What’s the difference between digital, Super 8, and 16mm?
Digital is modern, crisp, and flexible—great for full coverage with clean audio and “cinematic” color.
Super 8 and 16mm are physical film formats that offer a nostalgic, flickering texture—perfect for emotional highlights and intimate moments. I’ve heard and personally believe that it feels like watching a memory.
Between the 2, each have their own personalities. You’ve seen 16mm before in hollywood films like “The Wrestler” or “Black Swan”, whereas Super 8 is usually more geared towards flash back scenes or extra stylized footage.
Many couples choose a hybrid package for the best of both worlds.
🎞 Why would we choose real film?
Film feels alive. It’s grainy, imperfect, and full of character. On top of all that, it’s simply cool. It’s comparable to cars, in a way. Digital is a highly functional way to record, and makes a lot of sense - like a minivan. It’ll get you there, and comfortably. However, film is more like that badass 70’s all-steel van, with the vintage patina and rounded windows you saw driving down the road at sunset. The kind of thing where you have to stop for a second, and just appreciate it for what it is.
Super 8 and 16mm bring a timeless, handmade quality to your wedding video—like a memory you can hold in your hands. If you love vintage visuals or want something truly one-of-a-kind, film is for you.
📍 Where are you based, and do you travel?
I’m based in St. Augustine, Florida, and regularly film weddings in Jacksonville, Ponte Vedra, and across Northeast Florida.
I also travel for select weddings and creative projects—past locations include Maine, Rhode Island, Colorado, Montana, the mountains of North Carolina and Tennessee, New Orleans, Savannah Georgia, Wisconsin, and international destinations like Montego Bay and Negril Jamaica.
⏳ How long will our wedding film be?
Most films range from 7 to 9 minutes, depending on your package and the day’s flow. I also offer extended ceremony edits, rehearsal coverage, and multi-day filming upon request.
📦 How is the final film delivered?
Your film will be delivered digitally for easy streaming, sharing, and downloading. If you choose a film package (Super 8 or 16mm), you’ll also receive a digitized copy of the film scans,
🎵 Can we choose our own music?
Music is a big part of the emotional tone. I typically license music that matches your vibe—whether it’s soft and nostalgic or upbeat and weird. If you have a song or genre in mind, let’s talk.
🧱 How far in advance should we book?
I take on a limited number of weddings each year to keep each project personal and hands-on. For film coverage, booking 4–12 months in advance is recommended.
🎙 Can you capture vows or audio from the ceremony?
Yes—I use discreet audio recorders and mics during the ceremony and toasts for digital films. Film formats do not record audio directly, but I can blend high-quality sound into those edits.
🎬 Can we hire you for non-wedding work too?
Yes! I also shoot music videos, creative short films, and brand storytelling. You can learn more on my Creative Work page.
